NASW-KY Updates!

SOCIAL WORK LOBBY DAY 2017
MARCH 7th IN OUR KY CAPITOL  10AM-2PM

We hope you will join us for Lobby Day 2017, a chance for us all to connect, communicate and collaborate on all the things we get to do as social workers right here in Kentucky.
The most visible piece of the Lobby Day is the rally in the rotunda. But there is something that is just as important – and that is meeting with your elected officials to let them know what affects you in your practice, and how you feel about issues that sometimes get overlooked. We urge you to reach out to your legislators (find out who they are at:

http://lrc.ky.gov/Find%20Your%20Legislator/Find%20Your%20Legislator.html

….. make an appointment with them NOW so you can speak with them on  lobby day before the rally. Tell them about what is important to you, ask them about their relevant committee work, and most of all, ask them for their support on issues that are linked to the core values of social work.  It is important for our representatives in Frankfort to know who we are, what we do, and what we think, so please make an appointment to meet with your elected officials!

There are also standing House and Senate committee’s taking place on lobby day. They can be found at:

http://www.lrc.ky.gov/schedules/17RS_Standing_Schedule.pdf

Please feel free to join a committee hearing, and check the days schedule to see if there is anything being heard in committee that may be of specific interest to you.
The location, bill hearings, and schedule for the day’s committees is at:

http://www.lrc.ky.gov/legislativecalendarv2/sp_bss_calendar_/index

and gets posted the calendar day before (check back later in the day if it has not been refreshed when you first look).

We will be sending out another newsletter before the end of the week with our room number for the Advocacy Training from 10-11am on Lobby Day.  **Please remember our room assignment can change quickly, so we will be posting live on Facebook throughout Lobby Day so we can get our information out to everyone ASAP.
We will have 1 FREE CEU certificates for our Advocacy Training for those present in the committee room OR in the Capitol, as seating may not be available for all in our committee room.  We will also be live streaming on Facebook our Rally from 1-2pm too, so make sure and LIKE our page:

**Don’t forget about our frequent requests over the last months for artwork and creative collaborations that can be posted on the walls of the corridor between the Annex and Capitol.  We will be hanging your artwork during the 11-1pm time on Lobby Day, so be sure to check it out!

Parking is always an issue at the Capitol on busy days, so please try and car pool.  Buses should contact:  http://capitol.ky.gov/Pages/visitorinfo.aspx

Please be prepared for lines in the cafeteria too.  They move fairly fast, but you may choose to pack your lunch or enjoy the small snack bar on site.

We look forward to seeing you at lobby day!  Please contact Brenda with any questions at:  brosen.naswky@socialworkers.org
