Important December 2016 Updates

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF OUR DECEMBER GRADUATES!  NASWKY is excited to welcome you to the Social Work profession.  We wish each of you a joyful celebration of your accomplishments in the classroom and community as you prepare for your graduations this week. Be proud of your hard work, determination, and dedication to a profession that needs your skills, passions, and enthusiasm.  Look forward to all of the wonderful things ahead for you in both your personal and professional lives.  And never underestimate the power and importance of self care!

“An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.”
Martin Luther King, Jr.

NASWKY encourages our members and community partners to participate in this important call:

You are invited to join a conference call on Tuesday, December 13th at 11:00 AM EST with the National Association of Social Workers’ (NASW) CEO, Dr. Angelo McClain; U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Senior Counselor, Andrea Palm; and White House Senior Associate Director of Public Engagement, Bess Evans to discuss the current open enrollment period for the Health Insurance Marketplace under the Affordable Care Act.
Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, over 20 million people have gained access to affordable, quality health coverage, but there is still room for us to build on the tremendous progress that we’ve made. There are over 650,000 professional social workers in the United States, many of whom work with hard to reach and vulnerable populations–including the justice involved, people who are homeless, people with mental health challenges, and communities of color–that may not be connected to health care. Together with The National Association of Social Workers, we aim to mobilize the social work community to connect clients they serve to health insurance and the certainty that comes with getting covered.
We encourage you to circulate this invitation to all of your members and network partners who would be interested in engaging in enrollment efforts before the crucial December 15th and January 31st deadlines.

IFSW is delighted to announce the winner of the 2017 World Social Work Day Poster.
More than 400 submissions were received from many places in the world. Submissions had to include the 2017 Global Agenda for Social Work and Social Development theme: ‘Promoting Community and Environment Sustainability’ and use of an engaging image.
The winner is Martha Rothblum, the Creative Arts Manager at the National Association of Social Workers in the US. She has worked with NASW since 2002 and is responsible for designing all of the print materials and maintaining NASW’s brand identity.
Ruth Stark, IFSW President commented: “We congratulate and thank Martha Rothblum for her wonderful contribution to the profession. The image she has creatively designed will be an icon of social work in 2017”. Ruth Stark also expressed her thanks to all the people who submitted their designs; “This is evidence of the worldwide commitment and interest in making World Social Work Day as visible as possible”, she said.
